Creating the Perfect Custom Holiday Card

The holiday season is a time for spreading joy and cheer, and what better way to do that than by sending out custom holiday cards? Whether you're sending them to family, friends, or colleagues, clients, a personalized holiday card is a thoughtful gesture that will surely brighten someone's day.
I'm in the midst of working on custom cards for the Holidays and I wanted to shine the spotlight on a custom Holiday card that I created last year for Kahani Digital Marketing . It was and is by far the most relatable and memorable work that I have created. Hani gave me full creative freedom and it really brought the best out me . Her agency caters to South Asian businesses and has a fair mix of various clientele.
The artwork for her card was a mix of inspiration of her brand colors, South Asian heritage and fashion . It is one of my favorite projects to date. And the best part - I got my own Holiday card in the mail from Hani :)
So how does one go about creating the perfect custom card ?
1. Choose a Theme
Before you start designing your holiday card, think about the theme you want to convey. Do you want it to be traditional, whimsical, or modern? Do you want it be warm and personal ? Would you rather have a more direct approach that aligns with your values and company messaging ? It would depend on who the artwork is being designed for .
2. Creating the perfect design / artwork
An eye-catching image can make your holiday card stand out. You can use a photo of your family, a beautiful winter landscape that is meaningful to you , or a festive illustration. Make sure the image reflects the theme you've chosen and evokes the holiday spirit.
If you are working on a brand, a business, a company , it will have to convey their messaging and theme.
3. Printing
Once you're satisfied with the design, it's time to print and assemble your holiday cards. If you have a printer at home, you can print them yourself. Alternatively, you can use a professional printing service for a polished finish. In the past, I've used Vistaprint and Moo . They work great for postcards and holiday cards.
4. Add a Personal Touch
To make your holiday card even more special, consider adding a personal touch. You can include a handwritten note, if time permits. Maybe you add a small gift. It makes a huge difference receiving handwritten cards in the mail these days. It really conveys to the other person that you put in the time and effort into crafting a heartfelt message.
If you are pressed for time, might I suggest that there are services that offer handwritten card services - a.k.a - yours truly .
5. Timeline
If you are creating your own card , chances are you have done this before and would like to up the game. Try different mediums to get the creative juices flowing. But give yourself enough time to get it done on time.
If you would like to commission a holiday card, make sure to reach out to the artist or designer ahead of time to ensure a smooth process. There is considerable amount of time that goes into communication , drafts, approval , edits before a custom piece comes to life.
The artwork has to be printed . Bear in mind, printing companies are super busy this time of the year. And then you have to actually mail the cards :)
