Mayflower Hotel , Washington DC Wedding - Live Painting for Sanjana and Matthew

This blog was originally published on my old website on 6/5/2023. Being republished on this website on 04/15/23 - a day after Sanjana and Matthew’s wedding anniversary.

Back in April 2023 , I painted live at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC for Sanjana and Matthew's Tamil ceremony .  This  is my first Tamil ceremony that I have painted live .

Being a Tamilian, it was fun to hear Tamil   being spoken around me at a wedding. While every community's rituals at    weddings are different, some elements from Sanjana and Matt's wedding were similar to my community's weddings.

And it also happened to be right around Tamil New Year.

Sanjana looked beautiful in the wedding attire. She changed into a madisar for the actual wedding ritual . A madisar is a way a sari is worn by a Tamil Brahmin woman. Sanjana wore her mother's wedding sari for the wedding ritual , which made this a very significant moment at their wedding.

I painted the moment right after they got married. Matt tied the 'thali' around Sanjana's neck and they held hands as newlyweds . I love painting bright colors and I got to paint some very bright colors .

The Mayflower Hotel is a beautiful venue and this is my 2nd time painting live at an event.

I painted live during the morning at The Mayflower and finished it up in studio since the reception was being held elsewhere.

What do you think of the painting ?
